Vessa was larger than life.

She taught many that “all the world is a stage!” She chose to share that with whomever she met. Life was not a dress rehearsal for Vessa. She lived her life giving her best performance every day.

One of Vessa’s other true callings was to help others. She was an active member of the Christiana Rotary club and served as their Program Director. She was a Paul Harris Fellow and received many awards during her time as Rotarian, including the Service Above Self Award, Four Avenues of Service Award and Outstanding Achievement Award. Vessa exemplified the true meaning of Rotary – Service Above Self. She lived her life by the Four Way Test – Is it the Truth? Is it Fair to all concerned? Will it build Goodwill and better friendships? and Will it be Beneficial to all? She considered each member of the club her family.

Over-the-Rainbow Scholarships

Vessa was a multi-talented performer entertaining audiences as a singer, actor, dancer and model. She performed locally at the Gridiron, Riverfront Arts Pavilion and Delaware Children’s Theater. She has performed with Cirque du Soleil and headlined at the Four Seasons Hotel and as a featured performer at the Rehoboth Beach Jazz Festival. She had an amazing zest for life and loved to perform for anyone and everyone.

The Christiana Rotary Club is proud to honor her legacy by establishing the Vessa “Over the Rainbow” Performing Arts Scholarship.

The scholarship is named after her signature song that she always sang to close her show. The scholarship fund provides scholarships for underprivileged children to attend Delaware Theater Company’s Summer on Stage camp.

The camp offers a unique blend of instruction and performance as a creative alternative for your child’s summer vacation. Summer on Stage offers young people the unique opportunity to develop artistically and socially in a fun and safe learning environment. the instructors, who are theater and education professionals, provide a supportive atmosphere while encouraging and challenging campers to expand their personal and creative horizons.

The day is full of activities. Half of the day, students participate in acting, improvisation, movement and voice, and stagecraft classes in age-appropriate groups. In the other half, students use the skills they are developing to create and rehearse original plays for a final performance on the Delaware Theatre Company stage!
