George A Thompson Memorial Scholarship Program - What To Submit for Vocational or Training Grant

Any student who wishes to apply for the vocational or technical training grant must submit the following items:

 

1.   

The Application

2.   

A transcript of the applicant’s academic achievement

3. 

A letter of recommendation from the applicant’s school principal, vice principal, guidance counselor or teacher.  This letter should include an evaluation of the applicant’s:

 

          (a) character;

          (b) leadership qualities;

          (c) scholastic performance;

          (d) extracurricular activities; and

          (e) potential for benefitting from a vocational or technical training           program upon graduating from school. 

 

 4. 

A typewritten letter (double-spaced) written by the applicant describing the applicant’s views on each of the following subjects:

(a) a description of the kind of vocational or technical training the applicant wishes to pursue;

(b) the reasons why the applicant has chosen this specific vocational or technical training;

(c) how the applicant believes this training will lead to gainful employment in a trade; and

(d) the applicant’s reasons for selecting a specific school to attend.   

5. 

Additional letters of recommendation from school and/or community leaders may also be submitted, but are not required.
