LAST WEEK'S MEETING

Kay's Kamp

The speaker at the meeting last week was Laurie Warren who, with her husband Bill, founded Kay's Kamp, the first oncology camp in Delaware. Kay's Kamp provides a week-long camping experience for children ages 6-16 who are undergoing cancer treatment or who are in remission. It provides a special place where these children are able to escape the daily experience of hospitals, medication and treatment.

Laurie and Bill established the camp in memory of their daughter, Kaylyn, who died of leukemia in 2007.  It was Kaylyn's wish that a camp be made available to other kids who have cancer.  The Kaylyn Elaine Warren Foundation  accepts tax deductible contributions to help support the camp.  More information can be found at www.kayskamp.org.

Mary Jane Boyle receives Service Above Self Award

Past-president Stu Sherman presented the 2008-09 Service Above Self Award to Mary Jane Boyle for her many contributions to the Christiana Rotary Club last year. MJ, who was not able to resist making a short speech, told Club members that she didn't feel worthy and is in constant awe at what the Club is able to accomplish. She was reminded of the good work she did last year and was heartily congratulated.

Carol's coming back!

President Cathy announced that former member, Carol Brindle (you may remember her as Carol Edge), was applying for Club membership. That sparked numerous Happy Dollars as members were happy to hear that news.

Fundraiser announced

Past president, Stu Sherman, announced that planning is underway for a fundraiser to raise additional monies for the Club's TOUCH Program, which provides for Delaware's orphaned children during the holidays.  The Club is seeking the donation of a 50 inch HD flatscreen TV to raffle off.  More details will be announced in the coming weeks.
