I am honored to serve as President of the Christiana Rotary Club this year, the club’s 41st year.
Each year, the new Rotary International President gives the year a theme. The 2012-13 RI President, Sakuji Tanaka, has chosen the theme “Peace Through Service”. I love this theme and know that our club will wholeheartedly “embrace” its meaning. We will work toward making our community and the world a better and happier place by reaching within ourselves to help others, with our time, energy and compassion.
It’s going to be quite an ambitious year for our club. We’ve added several new charities to our budget and will continue to help the many others we’ve supported for years. Our TOUCH program has been growing since its inception and, unfortunately in these uncertain times, this need will continue to grow. In turn, we have an aggressive fundraising goal, and I know our club looks forward to the challenge. The collective and individual dedication of our membership will find creative ways to make the challenge fun, and I feel fortunate to be a part of it.
We will be growing our membership in a new and exciting way, made possible by our acceptance into the Rotary International Corporate Member Pilot Program and in close association with the other Newark Area Rotary Clubs (NARC). We all know that the more members we have, the further our help will reach. There really is power in numbers.
To our members, our families, our diverse and interesting speakers, our guests, our donors – those we know well and those we hope to know better, our fellow Rotary clubs and our many, many friends - thank you one and all. Each one of us working together is what makes this club so special and fun!
Yours in Rotary,
Roger Boyce
